If you’re a runner with a need for speed and a knack for endurance, then sign up for the Long Island Greenbelt Trail to Kilometer Run. The run will be held on Saturday, May 9 starting and finishing at the Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC) headquarters on Dupont Street in Plainview. The Runner’s Edge running and multisport specialty store in Farmingdale will be sponsoring the event.
For runners not ready for the 50K, the club will also be hosting a 25K on the same day, up the scenic and runner-friendly northern portion of the Greenbelt Trail from the Sunnyside Boulevard trailhead to the Cold Spring Harbor end of the trail and back. The 50K run will repeat the same course twice. Whichever distance you choose, there will be plenty of well stocked aid stations along the way to help keep you fueled.
The 50K will begin at 7:30 a.m. on May 9, and the 25K run will begin at 8:30 a.m. the same morning.
Reminding runners that the 50K run is well within the reach of anyone who has successfully completed a marathon, while the 25K run is something that anyone who has successfully completed a half marathon is capable of doing.
