Woman’s Death in East Meadow Probed as Homicide

A 52-year-old woman was found dead in her East Meadow home and her death is being investigated as a homicide, Nassau County police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call reporting “an unconscious female” at a Prospect Avenue home at the corner of Rugby Street, where Mirian Bejarano was found lying on the floor at 4 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

“We do not believe this is a random act of violence,” Chief of Detectives Kevin Smith told reporters Wednesday during a news conference at police headquarters. “Our investigation has direction and focus.”

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Nassau County medical examiner’s office is performing an autopsy to determine her cause of death.

Smith said that the victim shares the home with her husband and son, who was at work at the time. The family also rents the second floor of the home, but it was unclear if the tenants were home at the time. Smith declined to release further details except to say that investigators are looking for all of the victim’s relatives.

Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information regarding this crime to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.
