Brick Heads Are Kansas-bound

Following their awesome 2nd Place Champion’s Award in the Long Island FIRST LEGO League Championships, the Floral Park Brick Heads robotics team will be taking off for the Razorback Invitational Championship Tournament at the University of Arkansas on May 13. There they will compete with more than 70 teams from around the world.

Community organizations and families have made generous donations to offset the cost of the Brick Heads’ participation in this prestigious event. On Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Brick Heads will be holding a car wash fundraiser at the Carlton parking lot on the corner of Carnation Ave. and Floral Blvd.

Brick Head fans are invited to stop by to meet the team, learn all about robotics and the Arkansas trip, and get your car washed at the same time. A $5 donation is suggested, and the rain date will be Sunday, May 3, same time.

The Brick Heads, their coaches and families continue to appreciate the support of the Floral Park-Bellerose School District and community as they head to Arkansas to compete with the best in the world. Fans who wish to make donations may also send checks, payable to the “Floral Park Brick Heads”, to Coach Cindy Casson at 103 Cherry St., Floral Park, NY 11001. Those who prefer to donate through GoFundMe may access the Brick Heads’ account (www.gofundme.com/pcn4i4).

The practice of funding a project, cause or event by raising money from donors on the internet is called crowdfunding. GoFundMe was launched online nearly five years ago and has become one of the top crowdfunding or fundraising sites for personal causes and life-events. Hundreds of thousands of people have raised more than $900 million collectively from more than 10 million donors through the GoFundMe website.
