After an investigation spanning five months, cops have arrested a Westbury man in connection with the murder of a Jericho gas station attendant back in January.
Joshua N. Golson-Orelus, 23, of Westbury, was placed under arrest on June 17 at 8:40 a.m., according to authorities. Golson-Orelus is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree attempted robbery and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
According to authorities, a customer entered the BP gas station at 39 Jericho Tpke. on Jan. 28 and saw the male attendant, Hany Awad, of Levittown, laying on the floor behind the counter.
Cops arrived and found the 56-year-old dead with a gunshot wound to the torso. He was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m.
Police are still investigating if the murder of Awad and subsequent attempted robbery are related to a rash of gas station burglaries occurring in the vicinity around the same time.
