On Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m., Temple Beth Sholom of Roslyn will kick of the temple’s 65th anniversary, a yearlong celebration, with the opening of a new exhibit titled: “Prayer: For the Healing of Body and Soul.”The exhibit will present two renowned Long Island artists: Lawrence Schloss, who specializes in abstract sculptures in wood and stone, and George Schulman, a contemporary, kinetic painter.
“My sculptures of stone and wood speak to the inherent beauty and power of these materials,” said Schloss. “The sculptures often take months, some even years, to complete. The processI use to create my sculptures is deeply personal and often physically demanding; sculpturing rock And wood into powerful aesthetic statements requires absolute devotion.”

“I love to paint,” added Schulman. “To understand anything you must live with it, you must observe it; you must know all its content, its nature, its structure, its movement. One of the most difficult things in the world is to look at things simply. In the end it’s a lifelong process, so you need innocence, humility and courage.”
The evening will feature classical music with Christine Smith on piano and James Acampora on cello as well as a festive reception.
