William (Bill) Waldron Leddy, 78, of Santa Barbara, CA, died Aug. 25. Bill is survived by his wife, Beth, his children, Greg and Suzanne, daughter-in-law Jamelah, son-in-law Rick Ascher and his grandchildren, Katie and Kelly Ascher and Luke Leddy.
Bill was born in Brooklyn in 1936. After graduating from Midwood High School he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Washington DC. Upon entering civilian life he graduated from Brooklyn College, married the girl next door and earned his MBA from NYU. Bill was fortunate, entering the world of Wall Street in the days of partnerships. He loved the action, camaraderie and challenge on the trading floors and investment banking at CF Childs, Lehman Brothers, AG Becker and Prudential.
Settling in Port Washington, the family grew along with his love of running, tennis, sailing and later golf. After retirement, both adult children having decamped for the West Coast, Bill and Beth settled in Santa Barbara, CA. Moving to this new community was made so easy by wonderful neighbors and new friends. Bill contributed his financial knowledge and expertise to various boards along with “hanging” with his new buddies, playing golf, bridge and just “shooting the breeze.” He connected with people in his own special way.
He was a delightful man, appreciated for his wisdom, humor and warmth. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Services were held at All-Saints-By-the-Sea on Aug. 31. His favorite charities were the Cottage Hospital Foundation and Transition House.
