Registration is open for the Adult Education Program with the Sewanhaka Central High School District, open to district residents 18 years and older, offers classes such as recreational volleyball, ballroom dancing, an introduction to Microsoft Office, Zumba, yoga and more. Programs will be held at Elmont Memorial High School, Floral Park Memorial High School, H. Frank Carey High School and New Hyde Park Memorial High School. Thursday, Oct. 1

The West End Civic Association will hold its regular meeting on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 8 p.m. at the Atlantic Avenue firehouse.

The John Lewis Childs School (JLCS) PTA meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 9 a.m. at the school.


Saturday, Oct. 3

Liz’s Day will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, in support of breast cancer research and in memory of Elizabeth McFarland. The family-friendly event will be held at the Floral Park Recreation Center from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Rain date is Oct. 4.

The Friends of Stewart Manor will hold a village-wide flea market on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the village parking lot at Chester and Covert avenues. Sell your treasures, have some fun. $30 per table rental, tables supplied. Visit the Stewart Manor Village Hall at 120 Covert Ave. or call 516-354-1800 for information. The Our Lady of Victory (OLV) Rosary Altar Society will hold its annual communion luncheon in OLV’s Memorial Hall following 11:45 a.m. Mass. Village Mayor Tom Tweedy will be the guest speaker.

The Floral Park-Bellerose Schools board of education meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. at John Lewis Childs School.

The Village of Floral Park Board of Trustees will hold a regular meeting on Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. in the village hall courtroom, 1 Floral Blvd.

South Side Civic Association will hold its meeting on Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the recreation center.


Sunday, Oct. 11

Temple Tikvah of New Hyde Park Annual Rummage Sale is on Sunday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Monday, Oct. 12, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Highlights this year include costume jewelry, watches, pocket books, clothes, shoes, books, household items, vintage fashion finds and great bargains. Temple Tikvah is located at 3315 Hillside Ave. in New Hyde Park.

Upcoming Events

The Floral Park-Bellerose School PTA meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 9:15 a.m. at Floral Park-Bellerose School. The FPBS PTSA meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the school.

The Floral Park Library Board of Trustees will meet on Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Floral Park Public Library.

The North End Civic Association will meet on Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Reliance Fire House.

Floral Park’s AARP Chapter #5224 will meet on Monday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. at the recreation center. Senator Jack Martins will be the guest speaker.

The Village of Floral Park Board of Trustees will hold a regular meeting on Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. in the village hall courtroom, 1 Floral Blvd.

The Hillcrest Civic Association will hold its meeting on Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the recreation center.


Ongoing Programs

FISH Of Floral Park Provides free transportation to and from medical appointments for senior citizens who are residents of the Floral Park/Bellerose area and cannot afford cab fare or who have no other means of transportation. Should you or a loved one need transportation to a medical appointment, contact FISH at 516-835-9522 or telephone coordinator Fran Hornberger at 516-775-0740.

Women with metastatic breast cancer are invited to join a support group that meets on Thursdays, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The free group is a program of the Adelphi NY statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program and meets at the Adelphi University School of Social Work. The group is supported by a grant from the Alpern Family Foundation. To register, call Erin Nau, counseling and education coordinator, at 516-877-4314.

At the Bellerose Jewish Center, located at 254-04 Union Tpke., in Floral Park: free Jewish education for kindergarten and Sunday School children. A thorough religious curriculum with experienced teachers for third grade to their bar/bat mitzvah is also provided. Also, the Renaissance Group, a nonsectarian group of men and women who have lost a dear one meet. An exchange of ideas can be helpful. Call 718-343-9001 for the date of the next meeting.
