Charles A. Powers, “Cap” of Locust Valley, died on Sept. 2, 2015, at age 73. Beloved husband of LouRae. Loving father of Charlie (Laura) and Christy (Colin Allen). Dear brother of Pamela Prokop (Bob) and Patty Woodlock (Doug). Proud grandfather of Charlotte and Caitlyn.
Born in Manhattan in 1942 and raised in Sands Point. He attended Buckley Country Day school. He then went onto graduate from Lawrenceville in 1960 where he was an active member of the wrestling team which he continued to do at Princeton University where he graduated from in 1965. He then went on to receive his masters from R.I.T. in Photographic Science. Married LouRae Larson in 1966. He was drafted in 1967 during the Vietnam war and spent two years stationed at Fort Detrick, Maryland.
He then went on to work and eventually became the Chairman of Powers Chemco. After the sale of Powers Chemco, he became a financial advisor at Wellington Shields & Co. where he continued to work until his passing. He was also always committed to serving his community and had been the president of the Locust Valley Rotary Club, the Locust Valley Library and the Melillo Center. He was also on the board of the Family and Children’s Association.
