After edging out a road victory against Westbury 14-12 in last week’s matchup, the Sewanhaka Indians followed up with a loss to the MacArthur Generals 28-6. Despite the results, The Indians drop to 2-3 and the Generals improve to 4-1 with the win.
“I just told the boys we played a heck of a game out there against a very good team” said head coach George Kasimatis. “It’s the best game we played all year.”
The Indians received the opening kickoff but couldn’t sustain a drive as they went three and out. However, they would force a turnover and regain possession as the Generals fumbled the ball on their first play from scrimmage. Once again, the Generals defense held and the Indians were forced to kick it away.
The Generals drew first blood on the scoreboard with a touchdown at the 1:28 mark of the first quarter. Quarterback Jimmy Kelleher zipped a 10-yard pass to tight end Marc Arboleda to put the Generals up 7-0.
The Indians were ineffective in moving the ball down field in the second quarter. The Generals used a timeout when it was fourth and three near midfield. They were able to convert on fourth down and eventually move down the field for their second touchdown of the game.
MacArthur received the second half kickoff and continued to move the ball. They were stopped as defensive back Marty Lee-Mitchell picked off a pass deep in Indian’s territory.
Christian Tenorio would eventually hit receiver Elijah Tracey for a 62-yard touchdown pass. The Indians would again threaten in the third after recovering a fumble at midfield. However, their drive was stopped and the Generals took over on downs.
The fourth quarter would prove to be the difference maker as the Generals would score twice and put the game away.
The score did not totally reflect on Kasimatis’ football squad in their matchup with MacArthur. He believed the boys definitely improved and couldn’t asked for more. “We had a lot of opportunities. It was all there for us” said Kasimatis. “We just had to finish.”
