Anthony J. Santino was inducted as Hempstead Town Supervisor at a Town Hall ceremony that saw five other officials also take their oaths of office.
“I am honored to serve the residents of America’s largest township as Hempstead Town Supervisor,” said Santino. “I am eager to work with the entire Town Board to deliver the finest services and programs at the lowest possible cost to our middle class families and seniors.”
The induction ceremony was commenced by the U.S. Marines Color Guard Unit from Garden City and four clergy members offered prayers during the program. A short video presentation, which highlighted America’s largest township, along with four musical performances, including the National Anthem, was featured.
Hempstead’s new Supervisor delivered remarks detailing his priorities for his first term as the Chief Executive of America’s largest township. Among the priorities Santino identified were maintaining the town’s strong financial practices and downsizing government by doing more with less. He also spoke of helping stimulate the economy by encouraging growth and supporting business expansion. Protecting the environment, bolstering our coastline, encouraging renewable energy and safeguarding pure water were mentioned as part of the Santino agenda. The Supervisor talked about enhancing the township’s world-class parks, beaches, marinas, nature preserves and golf courses. Finally, Santino declared his dedication to offering life-enhancing programs to senior citizens and people with special needs.
Santino presented the Town of Hempstead Distinguished Service Pin to Jackie Sanford, widow of Ex-Chief Joseph Sanford, Jr., an Inwood volunteer firefighter who died while combatting a raging house fire in December of 2014. The Supervisor commented that Ex-Chief Sanford embodied the best that Hempstead Town has to offer.
“Hempstead Town is the best place in which to live, work and raise a family,” concluded the Supervisor. “I am committed to working with my colleagues on the Town Board to ensure an unmatched quality-of-life experience in our township while offering top-notch municipal services and programs neighbors have come to expect for pennies on the tax dollar. Together, we will deliver on the promise of a cleaner planet, economic prosperity, accountable government and a prosperous fu
ture for our families and future generations.”
Santino was sworn in as Supervisor by former Hempstead Town Presiding Supervisor Joseph N. Mondello. In addition to the newly-inaugurated Supervisor, Councilman Edward Ambrosino was inducted by former Hempstead Town Councilman Joseph G. Cairo, Councilman Bruce Blakeman was given the oath of office by Nassau County Supreme Court Justice Thomas Adams and Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney was sworn into office by Judge Denise L. Sher. Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad was inducted by Congressman Peter T. King and Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin took the oath of office from former Hempstead Town Presiding Supervisor Joseph N. Mondello.
