The Village of Westbury has declared a snow emergency in advance of this weekend’s impending blizzard.
The National Weather Service is forecasting snow to begin Saturday, with about three to seven inches hitting the ground before Saturday night, when another two to four inches of accumulation is possible. Heavy winds are also expected.
Snow will continue into Sunday morning, with most of it falling before 7 a.m.
The Village of Westbury put out a release Friday morning, cautioning residents to prepare for the storm and declaring a snow emergency starting Saturday at 6 a.m. through Sunday at 6 p.m.
“Plows will be operating throughout the duration of the storm. Accordingly, all cars should be removed from village streets for the duration of the declared emergency, to facilitate clearing of the streets,” said Mayor Peter Cavallaro in a release. “We ask that you please take every step possible to remove your cars from the streets. If you do not have space, please ask a neighbor to allow you to park on their driveway.”
Power outages are also likely due to the high winds and wet, heavy snow. The village said that the DPW is preparing for the storm and will respond accordingly with salting and plowing operations. The village encouraged residents to stay home if possible during the storm, and check in on elderly and homebound neighbors.
“Also, remember, if you have a sidewalk in front of or adjacent to your home, please be sure to remove snow and ice promptly following the storm in order to allow for safe pedestrian travel,” the village said.
