On a sunny and cool weekend, Troop 10 of Great Neck had its third of their annual fall camping trips.
The 13 Scouts and four adult leaders camped at a Boy Scout camp near the Delaware water gap. They set up tents on platforms on rocky terrain. They had target practice with .22 gauge rifles and did a compass orienteering course.
Two patrols of Scouts, one patrol of senior Scouts and the adult patrol each made their own menus and cooked their food. Dinners included sloppy joes, chili and spaghetti with sausage. The adults made Dutch oven chili. After cleanup, they had a big campfire under a clear starlit sky and then slept until daybreak. Breakfast was cooked by the patrols, including holes-in-one with sausage, pancakes, bacon and eggs. The adults cooked a Dutch oven mountain-man breakfast.
Tents were struck after cleanup and the site was policed for anything that did not belong, and then they departed the Kittatinny Mountains for Route 80 East.
Troop 10 meets at the North Shore Presbyterian Church on Monday evenings from 7:45 to 9 p.m. when school is open. The troop is nondenominational and welcomes all boys from ages 11 to 17. If interested, come to a meeting or contact the Scoutmaster Dr. Dwight Rosenstein at djrosenstein@gmail.com.
