Troop 10 Competes At Klondike Derby

Troop10_030916.ETroop 10 of Great Neck successfully competed at Shelter Rock District’s Klondike Derby in Muttontown Preserve on a not-too-cold, sunny Saturday. Troop10_030916.FThe competition entailed patrols of six to eight Scouts from troops all over northwestern Nassau County, each with a sledge to carry its gear as they traveled from “city” to “city” to tackle challenges set before them. Sometimes, the challenges required Scouting skills, such as first aid, knot tying or the ability to use a map and compass, or the challenge may have required problem-solving and teamwork. Troop 10’s Koala Patrol came in third place. Some of the older Scouts in the troop participated as staff members in the first aid “city,” acting as judges for patrols trying to meet the challenges set before them. All had a great day in the outdoors.
