An ambulance crashed into a bridge over the Southern State Parkway in Lakeview on Wednesday, killing the driver and a passenger, New York State police said.

The ambulance was heading eastbound when it struck the Eagle Avenue overpass on the right shoulder at Exit 18 shortly after 12 p.m., police said.

The names of the victims were not immediately available. An EMT who was also on board was taken to Winthrop University Hospital for treatment of a broken leg and a concussion.
