Ronald McDonald House Walk Of Love At GN South High

McDonaldWalk_042716.CSupport the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island (RMH-LI) for its annual Walk of Love 5K Run & Walk on Saturday, May 14, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Great Neck South High School. All proceeds will go towards the services and programs of RMH-LI & the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, which provide for families of seriously ill children.

RMH-LI is a “home away from home” for families who are caring for seriously ill children undergoing medical treatment in area hospitals. Located in New Hyde Park on the campus of the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York, the House accommodates families in a warm and supportive environment. Since opening in 1986, approximately 21,000 families from the United States and more than 80 countries around the world have been served. Many of the families are from Nassau, Suffolk and Queens Counties, as well as the surrounding metropolitan area.

McDonaldWalk_042716.BThe Ronald McDonald Family Room at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital is an extension of RMH-LI and provides families of children undergoing medical treatment a place to rest and relax right at the hospital. It has many of the comforts of home just steps away from their child’s bedside and helps alleviate the anxiety of being in a hospital environment. Some of these services include the chance to engage in private conversation, enjoy a beverage and a snack or even freshen up with a shower. It’s fully equipped with a stocked kitchenette, dining and sitting area, entertainment and Internet, laundry facilities and a transportation program.

McDonaldWalk_042716.ASince its inception in August 2013, the Family Room has served 7,200 families and more than 15,000 individuals. When a child is hospitalized and scared, the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine a doctor can prescribe.
