Virginia “Ginny” Caramanica lived in Port Washington for 70 of her 76 years before moving to Florida to be closer to her sisters and niece. She died of heart failure on April 25.
Anyone who was a patient of Dr. Buonocore years ago will no doubt remember Ginny, who worked in his office for decades. But just as many people will recall how she devoted her life to her family and volunteered with many worthy organizations in Port Washington.
She was particularly devoted to the Knights of Columbus Columbiettes, CancerCare and its Red Stocking Revue fundraiser and the Order Sons of Italy in America. She served as president of the Columbiettes and CancerCare for several years for each organization. One of her close friends, Barbara Faticone, recalled Ginny as “the life of the party and a sweet friend who was always fun and loved making people laugh.”
She is survived by her two sisters, Marie Posner and Irene Johnson, nieces, Denise Antin and Jennifer Millones, and nephew Richard Johnson, along with many other extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to CancerCare and mailed to CancerCare of Port Washington/Manhasset, 50 Graywood Rd., Port Washington, NY 11050. Ginny was cremated in Florida. Her family will spread her ashes in Florida as well as in Port Washington, her hometown that she loved so much.
