Matt Varvaro Running For Assembly

My name is Matt Varvaro. I am running for State Assembly in the 16th Assembly District, which covers parts of Mineola, Herricks, Albertson and Williston Park. I wanted to introduce myself to you and your readers, and tell you why I am running for office.

Like you, I am offended by the endless reports of corruption in Albany. As someone who believes deeply in public service, it sickens me to see elected officials use their office to serve themselves, rather than their constituents. Simply put, the corruption needs to end. We need ethics reform now.

I am running for the Assembly to be a voice for reform in Albany. Over the course of this campaign and during my time in state government, I will fight tirelessly for serious ethics reform. That reform will include term limits for elected officials, an ethics board with teeth, tougher penalties for corrupt politicians, more government transparency, and an overhaul of the state’s contracting and grant process.

I truly believe in our democratic system. In fact, I have worked in the political arena—including as an aide to Governor George Pataki and to the North Hempstead Town Board—precisely for that reason. However, when our democratic system is corrupted, we need to elect reformers who are committed to fixing it.

I will be that kind of reformer. If you want to send a strong message to Albany, I encourage you to join our campaign. Together, we can shake up the system and bring real change to Albany.
