The Jamaica Square Civic Association recently honored multiple students from Floral Park Memorial High School.
Junior Aquaria Branch received the Social Justice Award. Branch was honored for her leadership qualities, which she has exhibited since entering Floral Park Memorial. As a peer role model in the PEARLS group, she puts those natural talents to excellent use as a peer mediator. Branch is an upstander by nature and has always been in the center of conversation, advocating for equal rights for minority girls and at the heart of solving problems when they arise. As a varsity cheerleader, Branch would be “the voice” to provide constructive criticism in order to build the team’s cohesiveness and unity in their efforts.
Sophomore Uchenna Egbujor was recognized for her compassionate and uplifting personality that has garnered the respect of students and faculty at Floral Park Memorial alike. She is a diligent student who plans on majoring in the nursing field. Egbujor has been a member of the Romance Language Club for the past two years and is a member of the school’s PEARLS group since its inception last year.
Eighth-grade athlete Sabrina Louis was also honored. Louis is easily spotted in the hallways of Floral Park Memorial due to her infectious smile. She is well known for her accomplishments on the basketball court and played on the junior varsity team as an eighth-grader. In addition, she has been playing competitively for CYO since early elementary school. She also has emerged as one of Floral Park’s track stars on the junior high spring track team and was inducted into the school’s PEARLS group.
Rian Wannamaker was described as one of the school’s most kind-hearted students at the meeting. He is presently a volunteer with the Northwell Health System at Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital, where he assists with patient care. His humanitarian spirit makes him not only an exemplary volunteer, but is a leader amongst his peers. He was nominated by the faculty for membership in the school’s Knights Leadership program and was a peer leader for the annual Challenge Day event, where he supported and inspired his classmates.
Junior Rodney Wannamaker was recognized as a respectful, dedicated, focused and diligent young man. He is a model student who has managed to earn the respect of both the faculty and his peers. Rodney is a well-rounded individual with many talents. Rodney is a mature, caring, motivated and self-confident young man.
Members of the civic association also honored the members of Floral Park’s PEARLS Leadership group. Student Sydnie Jaime provided a brief description of the club and it’s recent activities to those in attendance.
