A 66-year-old man died after being found underwater and unconscious near an unoccupied boat in the water south of Bellmore on Thursday morning, Nassau County police said.

Town of Hempstead Bay Constables found the unoccupied 19-foot boat in Broad Creek Channel near Big Crow Island. Marine Bureau officers who responded to assist found the man at 11 a.m., police said.

The victim was pronounced dead two hours later. His name was not immediately released.

Homicide Squad detectives found no apparent criminality and are continuing the investigation.
