Student-athletes of the Mineola School District hit the wrestling mats recently, taking part in the second annual summer wrestling camp. A remarkable 42 students participated in the one-week camp, some of which were introduced to the great sport of wrestling for the first time, while the more experienced athletes continued to hone their skills. Two sessions were held, based on the participants’ grade level, which consisted of students entering grades 3 – 9. Focusing on the development of knowledge and technique, the young athletes learned what it takes to be a successful grappler.
The large turn-out of camp participants was very exciting for the Mineola wrestling program and with the students continued involvement in the sport, the program’s future looks to be very bright. The Mineola wrestling program will be hosting additional instructional opportunities for the students during the fall and winter months. Announcements will be made and flyers will be handed out to inform families of these opportunities.
