Seminar On Preventing Knee Injuries

Sports Featured ImageSummer is nearing its end. Soon, the new school year will begin and young people will be back playing on a variety of school sports teams. But whether that sport is football, soccer, dancing or dancing, these young athletes may run the risk of an injury.
To help educate the community, Northwell Health’s Orthopaedic Institute will offer a free seminar to parents, coaches and athletic trainers about preventing and treating knee injuries and other common lower body injuries in young athletes on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at North Shore University Hospital, Rust Auditorium, 300 Community Dr., New Hyde Park.
Andrew D. Goodwillie, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and a team physician for the New York Cosmos, will present the lecture, “Common Lower Extremity Injuries in the Young Athlete.” Goodwillie will discuss:
• Common knee injuries: prevention, treatment and rehabilitation
• ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury prevention and treatment options
• Gender specific injuries and treatments
Snacks and light refreshments will be served.
To register for the free community seminar, call 516-321-7500 or go online at Northwell.edu/orthoseminar.
