Baker Students Visited Atria Residents

GNPSAtria_021016.ASecond graders from Baker School visited the senior citizens at the Atria on Cutter Mill Road. In addition to singing for the residents, students presented them with posters that were made by all the Baker students and asked the senior citizens about living at the Atria in Great Neck and what life was like when they were children.

Residents loved the posters and asked for a return visit. The field trip was scheduled for the second grade’s Spirit Day, an outgrowth of the school’s “Habits for Life—All Baker citizens have the right to live and learn in a safe and supportive community in which: We take care of ourselves. We take care of each other. We take care of our environment. We try our best and persevere.”

The Habits for Life program was introduced by the school’s Shared Decision Making Team. Spirit Day events by other grades included a coat drive by the fourth grade, a food drive by the third grade and a Royalty Day sponsored by the first graders when the Baker community practiced treating each other like royalty.
