A 15-year-old girl was found beaten to death in her hometown of Brentwood on Tuesday night and her friend has been reported missing, Suffolk County police said.
A passerby called 911 to report a body on Stahley Street and upon arrival, Third Precinct police officers found Nisa Mickens in the road with lacerations and head trauma at 8:36 p.m., police said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office is conducted an autopsy and determined her cause and manner of death to be homicide by assault. Authorities suspect there may have been gang involvement in the death.
Police are also searching for her friend, 16-year-old Kayla Cuevas, who investigators believe was with Mickens at some point Tuesday night.
