Driver Dead in Oakdale Crash

A 68-year-old man who may have suffered a medical emergency died in a car crash in his hometown of Oakdale on Tuesday evening, Suffolk County police said.

Matthew Traub was driving his Prius eastbound on Montauk Highway when it crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle in a strip mall parking lot at 6:45 p.m., police said. The first parked vehicle flipped over and struck a second parked vehicle that had two people inside.

The victim was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine his cause of death.

A woman struck in the third vehicle refused medical attention, and her passenger was not hurt.

Fifth Squad detectives impounded the victim’s vehicle, are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information about this crash to call them at 631-854-8552.
