The Massapequa School District announces the appointment of a new curriculum associate for English Language Arts. Mary O’Meara, who returns to the district where she began her educational career, takes over the position on Oct. 13.
O’Meara began teaching ELA in December 2000, at Alfred G. Berner Middle School. For four years, she served as the ELA chairperson, supervising the creation of a literacy workshop. She later was the district chairperson of ELA, Reading and Library Media in the Hewlett-Woodmere School District, and for the past year has been assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in the Amityville Union Free School District.
“Our mission is for our students to develop an appreciation of the written word, and Ms. O’Meara brings a wealth of knowledge and a great spirit to lead our ELA team,” said Superintendent Lucille F. Iconis. “We welcome her back home to where it all began.”
As curriculum associate, O’Meara will oversee the entire ELA program from kindergarten through 12th grade. She resides in Lindenhurst.
