Plainview’s Melanie Fiume, 21, scored as first woman overall at the Tobay Beach 3-Mile Run recently, finishing the course in 20 minutes, 37 seconds to take the UJA-Federation of New York Summer’s Not Done 3 Mile Run earlier this month.
Other local athletes scoring with awards in the 3 Mile Run included 11-year-old Avery Chris of Plainview (third woman, 19 and under age group), Ann Dorman of Woodbury (first women, 50-59 age group) and Burt Jablon of Syosset (first, 80-plus age group).
At the same time that the 3-mile Run was happening, other athletes at Tobay Beach were participating in the accompanying UJA-Federation of New York Summer’s Not Done Aqua Run, with the 3-mile run being preceded by a ½ mile swim. Local award winners included 11-year-old Cooper Kelly of Plainview (first, 12 and under age group), 13-year-old Benjamin Levine of Plainview (first, 13-15 age group), Ben Carlow of Plainview (second, 25-29 age group), Robin Kreiner of Plainview (first woman, 30-34 age group), Michael Rubendall of Woodbury (second, 35-39 age group), Gary Plotkin of Plainview (second, 40-44 age group), Jason Fishbein of Syosset (third, 40-44 age group), Terry Ehrlich of Plainview (third, 65-69 age group), Alan End of Plainview (second, 70-74 age group) and John Mulvey of Syosset (third, 70-74 age group).
The entire net proceeds of the event goes to benefit UJA-Federation of New York and its efforts to transform the lives of 4.5 million people in New York, Israel and around the world. The world’s largest community-based philanthropy, UJA-Federation raises funds that sustain the activities of health, human services, educational and community-building agencies, enabling it to help the sick and the hungry, connect children to their Jewish roots and offer humanitarian relief to communities devastated by a crisis.
