Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum recently visited Udall’s Pond in Great Neck, which is located adjacent to the Great Neck Library on Bayview Avenue. Birnbaum and Nassau County Department of Public Works contractors examined Udall’s Pond and the surrounding area to assess the progress of the plantings within the pond and the overall condition of the property, which has been rehabilitated by Nassau County. The aquatic growth has been substantial and serves as a good indicator of the improved health of the area. Now that the plants have grown large enough, the exclusion fences, which were installed to prevent wildlife from eating the young plants, can be removed. There were a few areas without much growth and as a result, additional plantings are being planned.
