Mary Wexler, longtime resident of Great Neck from 1950 to 1980, passed away in Lauderhill, FL, at 102 years of age. Always displaying a positive personality, she was loved by everyone around her.
Throughout her years in Great Neck, she was an active member at Temple Beth-El and Sisterhood. Her sons, Allen and Lee, were both bar mitzvahed at Temple Beth-El in 1958 and 1964, respectively. She was an accomplished artist with dozens of oil paintings throughout her house at 9 Gould St., built by her husband, Bernard.
She was an avid golfer and tournament bridge player. In 1981, she and Bernard, who passed away in 1997, moved to a house in Tamarac, FL, and joined Woodmont Country Club. She continued being very active, playing golf, bridge and participating in many tournaments. In 1984, she made a hole in one during tournament play at Woodmont.
Mary and Bernard traveled extensively, visiting numerous countries around the world, as well as going on many cruises to the Caribbean. She was an active member of Temple Beth Torah in Tamarac, and received many service awards from City of Hope of South Florida.
In 2008, she moved to Forest Trace, an independent/assisted-living facility in Lauderhill, where she continued playing golf up until her 96th birthday. She is survived by her sons, Allen and Lee; daughters-in-law, Barbara and Susan; five grandchildren, Allison, Michael, Adam, Ben and Emily; three step grandchildren, Laura, Allison and Jennie; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Ryan and Colin.
Mary is interned with her husband, Bernard, of 52 years, at Star of David Cemetery in North Lauderdale, FL.
