North Amityville House Fire Leaves Man, Dog Dead

A 45-year-old Queens man and a dog died in a North Amityville house fire on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
 
Firefighters and Suffolk County police officers responded to a 911 call reporting the blaze on Jefferson Avenue at 10:40 a.m., police said.

Hector Rodriguez, of Hollis, was pronounced dead at the scene. A dog was also killed in the fire.

Two women who live at the residence were taken to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.

Amityville, North Amityville, Copiague, North Lindenhurst and East Farmingdale firefighters extinguished the flames.
 
Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are continuing the investigation into the cause of the fire.
