The “Great Backyard Bird Count” assists Scientists at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society in the collection of data in order to study the bird population over a specific period of time. Through these observations and data scientists are able to research and define environmental changes.

Village residents are urged to participate so please stop by Centennial Gardens on the above dates and join in the fun. The recreation department’s resident bird expert and field guide, Don Haug, will be on hand to oversee and provide background information to bird viewers throughout this scientific data collecting endeavor.

The actual count may be submitted to Don at the end of each session or dropped off Monday, Feb. 20 no later than 1 p.m. at the Recreation/Pool Building.

For more detailed information, interested villagers may contact the recreation center (516–326-6336) or visit the birdcount.org to learn more.
