A Central Islip woman was sentenced Thursday to 15 years to life in prison for killing her baby immediately after giving birth.

Santos Elena Ruiz Solano had pleaded guilty at Suffolk County court to second-degree murder.

Police said the 29-year-old woman gave birth to the baby girl at a house on Shoal Drive in West Islip, where she was employed as a housekeeper, at 3 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014.

After the woman killed her baby, she dumped the victim in the trash. Ruiz Solano was then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of complications of child birth.

Authorities said the infant’s body was recovered from a nearby garbage can and given to hospital personnel, who called police.
