A man was arrested for allegedly shooting his 37-year-old girlfriend to death in their hometown of Dix Hills on Thursday night, Suffolk County police said.

Eric Bermudez repeatedly shot Regina Flecha on Burroughs Avenue near the corner of Kenmore Street, pulled her into his vehicle and drove away from the scene at 7:30 p.m., police said.

About an hour later, Third Squad detectives spotted the 36-year-old suspect’s vehicle speeding on Fifth Avenue in Bay Shore, pulled him over at the corner of Union Boulevard and discovered the victim, police said.

The victim was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where she died shortly later. Union Boulevard was closed for several hours after the traffic stop while investigators searched the scene. The motive for the shooting and where the suspect was driving to are under investigation, police said.

Bermudez was charged with second-degree murder. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.
