The SUNY Maritime men’s soccer team improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2009.

Freshman Neil Dillon, of Floral Park, scored the opening goal for the SUNY Maritime Privateers in a Sept. 6 men’s soccer game versus John Jay College’s Bloodhounds.

Maritime kicked its offense into gear following the John Jay goal as Maritime took two shots, before Dillon evened the match in the 39th minute off of a quick pass in front of the goal from classmate Anthony Palazzolo. The score remained locked at one heading into the halftime break.

With time working against John Jay, the Bloodhounds were able to find the back of the net with just over five minutes remaining in regulation to even the game at two apiece. The Privateers had one chance out in front of the net off of a corner, but the Bloodhound defense blocked the shot and kept the game even at the end of regulation.

The Privateers earned a 3-2 victory over the John Jay Bloodhounds on Wednesday evening.

Dillon graduated from Floral Park High School in 2017. He was a four-sport athlete for the Floral Park Knights throughout high school including four seasons of varsity soccer and he was an All-County selection as a senior. Dillon was a scholar athlete during his senior year at Floral Park, all while playing lacrosse, ice hockey and golf. Dillon also played club soccer for the Massapequa NPL 99 club program. He’s the son of Neil Dillon, brother of Declan, Michael and Michaela. Dillon plans to graduate with a degree in marine transportation while also obtaining his U.S. Coast Guard Deck license while at Maritime.
