Young Woman Killed In Fatal Automobile Accident On Hempstead Tpke

At a press conference, Detective Vincent Garcia revealed that police are still investigating information such as the year and model of the pickup truck driven by the suspect.

UPDATE: Police are investigating a fatal hit and run incident that resulted in the death of 18-year-old Levittown resident Taranjit K. Parmar. The incident occurred on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 4:58 p.m. in Levittown.

According to detectives, Parmar, was driving a 2018 Jeep traveling eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike, when she was struck by a red pickup truck traveling northbound, attempting to turn eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike in the vicinity of Gardiners Avenue. After the minor collision, both drivers immediately pulled off the roadway at 3300 Hempstead Tpke. While Parmar was out of her vehicle, the male subject fled the scene, striking the victim and running her over. The subject, described at a press conference by Detective Vincent Garcia as “middle-aged, male, white, wearing a baseball cap,” fled eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike.

Parmar, who sustained trauma to the head and chest, was taken to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead by a staff physician. Garcia expressed hope that the police would learn further details from witnesses, believing that an incident in such a populated area couldn’t have passed unnoticed.

“This was a fender-bender—a minor auto accident—and an 18-year-old girl lost her life,” Garcia said. “If you live in Nassau County, you know what Hempstead Turnpike looks like at 5 p.m. on a Thursday. People witnessed this incident. At this time, we’re asking for the public’s help.”


Nassau County Homicide Squad reports the details of a fatal vehicular accident that occurred on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 4:58 p.m. in Levittown.

According to detectives, Taranjit K. Parmar, 18, of Levittown., while operating a 2018 Jeep traveling eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike, was struck by a red pickup truck traveling northbound, attempting to turn eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike in the vicinity of Gardiners Avenue.

After the minor collision, both operators immediately pulled off the roadway at 3300 Hempstead Turnpike. While the victim was out of her vehicle, the male subject fled the scene striking the victim and running her over. The subject fled eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike.

Nassau County Police Ambulance transported the victim, who sustained trauma to the head and chest, to an area hospital where she was later pronounced deceased by a staff physician.

The investigation is ongoing.
