hans
Hans

Long Island shelters and rescue groups have tons of dogs and cats of all shapes, sizes and breeds that are just waiting to find their forever home. Read about some of the adorable animals that are available for adoption this week!

Available for adoption at the Little Shelter in Huntington:

Handsome Hans is an energetic 1-year-old Australian Shepherd mix. He is very loving and outgoing, always looking to play and getting ready for the next big adventure. Hans loves to be on the go, out exploring the trails on his walks or running around with toys in the dog pens. He’s very clever and would do great in obedience classes with a family who’s dedicated to him.

pookie
Pookie

Super sweet Pooky is an 8-year-old tuxedo cat who is described as a total lovebug who wants nothing more than to shower you with affection. Pooky is a big, but gentle boy who answers to his name and is known to follow his favorite people around the cattery. Pooky would love someone to curl up with who his whole world will revolve around.

harrison
Harrison

Harrison is the adorable white-and-black kitten who loves belly rubs! Harrison gets along great with other cats and is an active player enjoying lasers, kitty dancers, catnip toys and tunnels. Harrison is very sweet and will lay down in front of his favorite staff asking for a tummy rub when they come to visit him. He is known to look out for the smaller kittens in the cattery, running over to check their okay if he hears one crying.

For more information on adopting Hans, Pooky or Harrison, please call the Little Shelter at 631-368-8770, or come in for a visit at 33 Warner Rd. in Huntington.

Available for adoption at The Town of Oyster Bay Animal Shelter:

Nelson 1
Nelson

Nelson (reference #170678) is an adorable 9-year-old Jack Russell Terrier Mix that was surrendered to the shelter because his owner was unable to take care of him anymore. Nelson is up to date on all of his vaccines, and would do best in a home with older children. Nelson was an only pet so if you are thinking of adopting this sweet fella and you have another dog, the shelter requires a meet and greet. Nelson sure does hope that someone might read this and be looking for a small dog just like him!

chip
Chip

Chip (reference #170690) is a friendly and fun 3-year-old Chihuahua who was surrendered to the shelter as his owner could no longer care for him. Chip weighs 8 pounds, is very friendly, loves to be part of the crowd and loves his little pillow bed. Chip is now neutered, up to date on all his vaccines and micro-chipped.

He is such a handsome little guy that definitely needs to find himself a home where he will be an important part of his new family. He is a people person for sure and should be an only dog. We hope you can share Chip’s story that he is waiting in the shelter for the next chapter in his life to begin.

For more information about adopting Nelson and Chip, please call the Town of Oyster Bay Animal Shelter at 516-677-5784.

Available for adoption at The Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter:

Misty
Misty

If you’re wondering who this gorgeous looking dog is, Misty was recently DNA tested and she came back as a Chow Chow, Jindo, German Shepherd, and American Staffordshire Terrier mix! Misty is 5 years old and is an affectionate dog who can sometimes be wary of strangers at first. Once she warms up, you have a friend for life!

She loves long walks on the trail and petting sessions. Misty would do best in an adult home as the only pet in the house.

Pablo
Pablo

Pablo is a 1-year-old Pit Bull mix who came to the shelter as a stray last year. He is an energetic and fun pup, who loves chasing and trading tennis balls with staff and volunteers. Pablo is a quick study, eager to learn his basic commands for treat rewards.

He’s a go anywhere, do anything kind of companion. He likes the company of other dogs, but needs a canine companion that can match his exuberance. He would do best in an active home dedicated to continuing his training.

Please call the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter at 516-944-8220 for more information on adopting Misty and Pablo.
