How To Follow The 5 Winter Olympians from Long Island

Now that the 2018 Winter Olympics are underway, it’s time to buckle in for a month of icy athleticism. Among the 242 Team USA members we have to root for, Long Island has five hometown heroes going for the gold this February in Korea. Here’s how to follow them.

Matt Gilroy

The Team USA men’s hockey defenseman, a former New York Ranger and North Bellmore native, is making his first Olympic appearance. Team USA plays Slovenia at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, Slovakia at 10:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 and Olympians from Russia at 7:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 before the playoffs begin Tuesday, Feb. 20. Justin Krewson

This Eastport native is aiming for a doubles luge medal with his partner, Jayson Terdiman. Six training rounds between Sunday and Tuesday will be followed by the main event 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14. Follow him on Facebook. His Instagram handle is @krewsonusa

This former Oceanside resident won a silver medal in the slope style competition in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. This time, the freeskier is also competing in the ski halfpipe contest.

The Women’s Slopestyle Qualifying at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 can be live streamed here and the final at 11 p.m. the same day can be live streamed here. The Women’s Ski Halfpipe Qualifying at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18 can be live streamed here and the final at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19 can be live streamed here. NBC will air the competition as well.
