If you are ready to adopt a new cat or dog, check out this week’s wonderful lineup of adorable adoptable animals.
If you’re not quite ready to make the commitment but want to help, why not consider fostering? Did you know that homeless animals have a much greater chance of finding their forever homes when they find foster homes first? Between kitten season and the arrival of warmer weather, thousands of cats, kittens and dogs are left homeless, winding up at our already overcrowded shelters and rescues.
The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh is seeking anyone who would be interested in fostering kittens, cats and dogs. Those interested in volunteering should fill out an application and reside within 45 minutes of the shelter. If you currently have animals in your home, they must be up to date on vaccines.
The shelter will gladly meet with individuals/families to teach bottle feeding or how to look after an older kitten if you not experienced. In addition, the shelter provides anything the kittens needs (bottles, milk, blankets, crate, litter, medical expenses, etc). Same goes for canines. For for more information call 516-785-5220 ext 4611 or 4629.

A 5-year-old Doxie/Terrier mix, Bubbles is as effervescent as her name implies. She will happily accompany you wherever your day takes you, and if that includes a trip to Starbucks for a Puppacino, all the better! Bubbles also knows though, that it’s important to maintain her girlish figure, so she is hoping for a family that will provide her with lots of play time to keep her happy and healthy. You won’t be able to hide your excitement once you seek her out. This adorable girl will change your life for the better.

Who is this ridiculously handsome 7-year-old Shepherd mix? Meet Theodore! Poor Theodore really hasn’t been dealt a very fair hand, but staff and volunteers remaining positive that his true forever home is out there.
Theodore was in an adoptive home, but unfortunately, his owner who is in the military was being deployed and Theodore was once again made homeless. Theodore has a lot of buddies at the shelter who have some pretty awesome things to say about him.
Theo loves other dogs. He thinks he’s a lap dog. He loves to be pet, massaged and tickled under his chin. Theodore is a rock star, says staff members.
Walking Theo is a great experience, as he barely pulls on leash. He knows many commands including “sit,” “watch me,” “down” and “stay”. He is also house trained and crate trained and even loves going for car rides.
This 50-pound cutie pie did display some resource issues during his initial evaluation at the shelter which staff and volunteers are working to improve, but at this time he is looking for a dog-savvy home with adults only who can continue his treatment. Did we mention there’s free adoptions until Sept. 2?!
