In anticipation of Wednesday afternoon’s expected snowfall, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran warns of hazardous driving conditions and advises residents to take extra precautions, particularly during Wednesday evening’s commute.
According to the National Weather Service, two to three inches of snow is expected and will begin as early as 2 p.m. and last through early evening on Wednesday. A change to a wintry mix is expected, turning to all rain overnight. Road maintenance crews will be mobilized throughout the day to salt and plow as needed in preparation of the evening rush-hour. Maintenance crews will be flexible as the conditions may change.
Hazardous travel conditions may continue through Thursday morning’s commute. As such, we’ll be monitoring closely and will deploy our crews as needed.
Nassau County has designated several locations as warming centers for residents in need. The following warming centers will be open:
- Cantiague Park Ice Rink (516-571-7056) located at 480 West John St. in Hicksville
9 a.m. until p.m. - Christopher Morley Park (516-571-8113) located on Searingtown Road. North of the LIE in Roslyn
8 a.m. until 4 p.m. - Nassau County Aquatic Center (516-572-0501) located in Eisenhower Park, Merrick Avenue in East Meadow 6 a.m. until 7 p.m.
For those in need of a warm bed overnight, the Nassau County Winter Homeless Hotline (1-866-WARMBED) is available and runs seven days a week through March 31, 2019.
