meditate 1851165 1280Coping mechanisms to help reduce stress and anxiety can be an important part of treatment for breast cancer. At a free educational forum, sponsored by the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Program, experts in meditation, mindfulness and gong meditation will demonstrate these practices and provide the opportunity for attendees to practice during the event.

Teachers are Jacob Cooper, a licensed master of social work, certified hypnotherapist and Reike master, and Marc Switko, a NYS licensed psychotherapist and counselor. Cooper is a renowned speaker who assists in empowering clients to make transformative changes in their lives. He is a psychotherapist in a mental health clinic and also provides private meditation, hypnosis classes and sessions. Switko uses gong playing as a therapeutic, meditative and performance method in treatment for patients. In gong meditation, sound waves from the gong help move energetic bodies into a relaxed state.

The seminar, which is free, will be held on Thursday, March 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Alumni House at Adelphi University in Garden City. Reservations are required; call 516-877-4325 to register. Or email breastcancerhotline@adelphi.edu. Attendees should wear comfortable clothes. Mats are provided, but attendees may bring their own as well.

The forum can be watched live on Facebook at www.facebook.com/adelphibreastcancerhotline and will be posted the next day on YouTube at www.youtube.com/AUBreastCancer.

This forum is supported by grants from The Junior Coalition of the Manhasset Women’s Coalition and Sientra Full Circle.
