Defensive Driving Class

Poetry Awards Reading

The 9th annual Poetry Contest Awards Reading Day will be held at noon at Great Neck Plaza Village Hall, 2 Gussack Plaza. This year’s winners will read their poetry, including Great Neck’s Honorable Mention recipient Mindy Ohringer. The first six people to sign up will read a poem at the free event; 516-482-4500.

National Circus Project

The National Circus Project will present an interactive family program exploring the behind-the-scenes obstacles of a circus at 3 p.m. at Great Neck House. A park card is required.

Concert and Gala

Town Hall Meeting

The Village of Great Neck Board of Trustees will hold a town hall meeting to gather community input on revitalization and what actions should be taken at 7:30 p.m. at Great Neck House, 14 Arrandale Ave.

Memories with Music

North Hempstead residents can buy composters that turn yard and kitchen waste into nutrient-filled soil for their garden and rain barrels to recycle rainwater for irrigation in their yard at a discounted rate of $50 by check (a convenience fee of $1.50 applies to credit/debit transactions) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Clark Botanic Garden, 193 I.U. South High Opera

South High School’s 50th anniversary opera, Die Fledermaus, will begin at 7:30 p.m. at 341 Lakeville Rd. Initiated in 1969 by vocal music teacher Diane Martindale, South High remains one of the only non-specialized public high schools in the nation to have an active opera program. To celebrate the milestone, the 50th Opera Gala Celebration will be held on Saturday with a brief ceremony including a short video about the school’s opera history at 7 p.m. After final bows, alumni will be invited on stage to “perform as one” in the finale, followed by a reception. Tickets cost $15, adults; $10, students and seniors at 516-441-4851.
