Poetry Awards Reading
The 9th annual Poetry Contest Awards Reading Day will be held at noon at Great Neck Plaza Village Hall, 2 Gussack Plaza. This year’s winners will read their poetry, including Great Neck’s Honorable Mention recipient Mindy Ohringer. The first six people to sign up will read a poem at the free event; 516-482-4500.
National Circus Project

Concert and Gala

South High Opera
South High School’s 50th anniversary opera, Die Fledermaus, will begin at 7:30 p.m. at 341 Lakeville Rd. Initiated in 1969 by vocal music teacher Diane Martindale, South High remains one of the only non-specialized public high schools in the nation to have an active opera program. To celebrate the milestone, the 50th Opera Gala Celebration will be held on Saturday with a brief ceremony including a short video about the school’s opera history at 7 p.m. After final bows, alumni will be invited on stage to “perform as one” in the finale, followed by a reception.
