Spring is here and it is time to take a moment to pause and look around and see the different flowers coming into bloom. Winter is dreary and the trees were bare with all the flora and fauna dormant. It is so exciting to see the crocuses peek out in the freezing cold weather and the forsythia bushes starting to bloom. If you were a diligent gardener in the fall, spring bulbs have popped up with the beauty of daffodils, tulips and hyacinths. These gorgeous perennials greet us in April as does the awakening of the flowering trees such as cherry blossoms, magnolia, dogwood and so many more.
It is a season of birth and renewal and the earth is responding to its call. Just as the weather warms, baseball and softball season begins along with the town favorite of lacrosse. It is time to head outdoors and enjoy the weather. Bicycling has made a comeback in the neighborhood and children as well as adults are going for rides. As a teen, I remember the family all getting on bicycles and riding throughout the village—it was a great time. We also rode our bikes to the tennis courts and the club.
Manhasset is hometown to families and it is important to remember that families enjoy the outdoors, so it would be beneficial for the drivers out there, whether adults, seniors or newly minted drivers to take care and drive slow in the area and keep cyclists, skateboarders, runners and pedestrians safe as we begin our sojourn into spring. Take a moment to stop at stop signs rather than rolling through them. The few seconds it takes to heed driving regulations could make the difference between a good day and disaster.
