Some very special cats and dogs are available for adoption this week, making their way to Long Island from all parts of the country. Your purrrfect pet is waiting for you, so head out and bring home your new best friend today!
If you can’t adopt but wish to help animals in need, the NCSPCA is seeking donations to help with the care of a dog in their possession that is truly lucky to be alive. It’s difficult to imagine how someone could harm such a sweet little dog, but her owner did just that, beating and choking her, leaving her with several broken ribs, her forearm broken in two places and a pulmonary contusion. It’s a miracle this little girl is alive and recovering, but she needs a ton of medical care to get her through her trauma. If you can, please consider making a donation towards her care. click here to donate

Tigger was originally adopted from Little Shelter and returned after 12 years due to no fault of his own. Tigger is very affectionate and gets along well with other cats. He usually can be found in the Cattery kitchen where he greets all guests coming into the Cattery, hoping that one of them will see how great he is and give him a second chance at a forever home. Come meet Tigger today and help make his “Golden Years” special!

Available for adoption at Second Chance Rescue:
Looking for the coolest dog on the block? Well you found her, its Margie! This 5-year-old, 50-pound gal is literally the perfect pet because she knows her commands, is crate/house trained, does well on leash, and isn’t reactive to other dogs. She is blind in her left eye, but that certainly doesn’t stop her, however young kids, small dogs and high traffic homes aren’t ideal as she gets nervous being unable to see. But, a male dog of her equivalent would make an awesome buddy for her. If you’re interested in adopting Margie, contact Second Chance Rescue at nycsecondchancerescue.org
Available for adoption at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:
Bobi (terrier mix) and Coyote (Cattle dog) are bonded brothers who were surrendered by their owner due to no fault of their own. These brothers were purchased as puppies from a flea market in North Carolina. They were kept outside most of their lives, are very sweet, know some commands and are eager to please.
They like other dogs, and absolutely LOVE each other. They do need some work on leash manners, but other than that, they are just amazing! It’s so sad that they are at the shelter and separated at the shelter, but when they see each other they get so happy! If you are willing to open your home and your heart to two dogs in need, please ask about these babies!

Look at this super suave kitty-his photo says it all! Sadly, Nike (Adoption #H203260) recently lost the only home he’s ever known so NSALA is asking for your help to find an even happier one for him to spend forever in. Nike would appreciate a peaceful home with children 12+ in age who will nurture his quiet spirit. For more information, please reach out to DoritS@animalleague.org
Paulie (Adoption #MA3607) has already survived quite a bit of trauma in his short life but is recovering comfortably at NSALA’s Adoption Center. After a long journey from St Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands to Port Washington, tiny Theresa (Adoption # IR1695) has just one request from her future family: she’d like to be the one and only pet in her household. Love and attention is all this one-year-old international treasure requires! Because Theresa likes to be in charge, NSALA is seeking a home with children 12+ who can appreciate her need for personal space. If you’d like a delightful diva moving into your heart, please come by and meet Theresa! Email DoritS@animalleague.org for more information.
After an arduous year of rescue adventures, Michuki (Adoption #IR952) just wants to be home. This 1 ½-year-old, orange lady began her rescue story in Puerto Rico, with the promise of a simple life as a cherished family member on the mainland. All she craves is a predictable, quiet life, sweetened with a steady flow of treats and understanding.
This smart feline has already begun clicker training and will walk herself into a carrier when it’s time to go! Her ideal household is a consistent one with no children or other pets to distract her from learning to trust her first human family. Michuki has made it this far – can you close the book on her rescue story and bring her into our home? Please reach out to DoritS@animalleague.org if you are interested.
As always, thanks for reading and please remember to always adopt, never shop…pass it on!
