There was a lot to be discussed at the Village of Floral Park’s recent board meeting.
Deputy Mayor Kevin Fitzgerald reported that the village’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is finishing up the last week of road repairs for the season using hot patch. This year, the DPW has applied more than 600 tons of asphalt at selected areas throughout the village to repair pooling water issues and road repairs.
“Crews are now preparing for the fall leaf season,” said Fitzgerald. “We would like to remind residents to please not rake leaves into the street. Sanitation crews will pick up bagged leaves curbside on designated yard waste days.”
Trustee Lynn Pombonyo reported that Centennial Gardens will be the site of a Fairy Forest Festival on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. Visitors, young and old, can walk the trails and use their maps on a treasure hunt to find 12 tiny fairy stations, including a gardener, cook, carpenter, fisherman and others. Proceeds will go to the Floral Park Conservation Society to enhance the beauty of Centennial Gardens.
Pombonyo thanked all residents for participating at the Covert Avenue Street Fair.

Trustee Frank Chiara informed residents that Senator Anna Kaplan’s Mobile Office will be at the Floral Park Library on Monday, Nov. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Mayor Dominick Longobardi thanked the DPW staff for all their hard work regarding all the community events that the village has recently had.
“All these events are the result of the hard work of our community volunteers,” said Longobardi. “Liz’s Day was a phenomenal success again this year. It is a great time for all our village friends and family to come together and support wonderful causes.
