A new $2.5 million Northwell Health Eye Institute that recently opened in Bethpage will offer expanded ophthalmologic services for Long Islanders.

The new state-of-the-art 5,178-square-foot facility provides services for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye conditions, including glaucoma, cataracts, and corneal disease.

“Eye health needs to be prioritized as many sight-threatening conditions, such as glaucoma, can only be detected by thorough eye examination,” said Dr. Richard Braunstein, senior vice president and executive director of ophthalmology services at Northwell Health, and chair of ophthalmology at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center in New Hyde Park. “In addition, a complete eye examination may detect medical conditions which would otherwise go undiagnosed.”

Specialty trained ophthalmologists on staff at the new institute include Dr. Jung Lee, Dr. Alina Djougarian, Dr. Farihah Anwar, Dr. Richard Braunstein, and Dr. Sara Yoon. The office has 12 exam rooms, a procedure room, and cutting-edge diagnostic tools.

With more than 70 subspecialty ophthalmologists across the New York metropolitan area, the Northwell Health Eye Institute is a network of physicians employed by Northwell as well as community-based providers in private practice. Patients can be assured that ophthalmologists credentialed as members of the institute deliver top-quality, coordinated care, and participate in active and ongoing clinical trials.

Northwell Health Eye Institute physicians specialize in a range of ophthalmology services, including cornea, cataract, retina, uveitis, glaucoma, neuro ophthalmology, pediatric, and oculoplastics. The Eye Institute’s care network includes 31 locations on LI and in New York City.

The institute partners with the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research so patients can participate in clinical trials and other innovative research. It also collaborates with the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell’s residency and fellowship programs to train and develop future clinicians and scientists.

The Northwell Health Eye Institute is located at 4300 Hempstead Tpke. in Bethpage. It can be reached at 516-210-8200 or northwell.edu/eye-institute
