Did you know that in 2011, Long Island native Wayne Morris created Black Cat Appreciation Day in honor of his sister who had passed away? It is now marked annually on August 17!
When their father didn’t want a black cat in the house due to superstition, Wayne soon learned that black cats are the least likely to be adopted. With the goal of changing minds and encouraging people to adopt black cats, this special day was born.
In honor of Mr. Morris who passed away recently, consider adopting a black beauty. If you can’t adopt, please help share their information with others.

Sega is your typical sister always looking after her brothers. She’s usually the first one to start the grooming sessions. Her favorite spot is resting her head on whoever’s around. She likes kisses and relaxing but will chase anything that moves! To adopt Sega complete our adoption application at tenderlovingcats.org
Available for adoption at the Smithtown Animal Shelter
**Senior Alert** Blaze is a nine-to-10-year-old Pit mix who has been a longtime resident of the Animal Shelter. He was rescued by Animal Control Officers after he was found abandoned and left in a cage in Blydenburgh Park. He is a big food lover who also enjoys splashing in the pool and playing with toys. Blaze can be very protective of people he bonds with, and his trust can be gained with time and lots of treats. Once he trusts you, he’ll love you forever. Blaze would do best in an adult-only home without any other pets. Any interested owners must have experience with his breed.
If you are interested in meeting Blaze, please fill out an application to schedule time to properly interact with him in a domestic setting, which includes the shelters Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs, and Dog Walk trail. Call 631-360-7575 for more information today!
Available for adoption at North Shore Animal League America

**Senior Alert and Double Adoption** Rum Tum Tugger (Adoption #H210441) isn’t a very curious cat actually! In fact, this shy boy content to cuddle into his favorite sibling Catherine the Great (Adoption #H210443). These bonded, 10-year-old tabbies and the rest of their feline family began a new life at Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center after they lost their previous home and owner last spring. These two lived their whole lives swapping cuddles together, and we intend for them to spend the rest of their lives side by side. Catherine has leaned heavily on Rum Tum for support as she slowly acclimates to life away from the only home they’d known. Rum Tum is loyal to a fault and barely leaves Catherine’s side. These wonderful retirees would love a peaceful, predictable home with adults experienced in nurturing tender souls (and no young children.) If you feel you have the heart for a sweet pair of deserving seniors, please ask about meeting Rum Tum Tugger and his beloved Catherine the Great!
**Double Adoption** Two-year-olds Malt (Adoption #H210996) and Milkshake (Adoption #H210997) needed help when humans’ allergies became an issue in the home they’d shared for most of their lives. Now safely nestled in a cozy cubby together in Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center, this very bonded pair of siblings will love each other through this moment—hopefully a brief one. While they wait, Malt enjoys chatty moments with visitors while her brother chases toys around the room. While they’re overcoming their shyness, Animal League America is seeking a calm household (with kids over 8 years old) who will nurture away any apprehension they may bring with them as they slowly re-settle into family life.
**Senior Alert** It’s always sad for a senior to lose the home they’d known their whole lives, but Dempsey (Adoption #D43983) needed much more than moral support as he transitioned to a new life in Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center. This tender, 12-year-old tabby needed a plan to restore him to optimum health. Newly diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism, Dempsey has successfully responded to daily medication. He also received entropion repair surgery on his eyes which immediately alleviated him of his discomfort. The ongoing treatment of these conditions will be covered through Pet Health Centers at cost. You’ll find Dempsey eager to repay the kindness he’s received, hopeful you’ll sit with him and rub his chin. Once you begin, you’ll never want to stop! Dempsey’s misfortune has turned into a new lease on life, and he’s shared with us that he wants to spend the rest of it being doted upon as the only pet in his home. Do you have room for him to be the one and only in your heart and home?
If you’re in search of an inspiring companion, look no further than Lenape (Adoption #BF3872)! This five-year-old black beauty is more than just a handsome face; he’s a true survivor! Despite his humble beginnings on Long Island, he’s seizing this moment to captivate every human he encounters. He was recently returned due to his family moving out of state. After a blissful stay in his first real home, he’s hopeful his next home will be his for the rest of his life. Lenape missed out on one-on-one time in the beginning of his life, he’s looking for a stable home that will make him their top priority as the only pet and a household with children 12 and older. You’re going to be glad you have someone so eager to thank you who wants only to be by your side furever more!
**Double Adoption** We don’t want to sound cheesy, but we’re finding five-month-olds Parmesan (Adoption #H211535) and Cotija (Adoption #H211537) simply irresistible. Maybe it’s the mini-house-panther looks, or their wide-eyed wonder, but these bonded baby brothers are just the right fit for someone good at pampering away the shyness. A home with children over age 6 will help them settle into their new environment successfully. Just a little encouragement—and treats!—and they’ll be literally eating out of your hands in no time!
