Bed Bath & Beyond announced Monday that it will close 87 more stores, including Long Island locations in New Hyde Park and Bohemia.

The announcement comes after the home goods retailer shared an initial list of 150 stores, including its Farmingdale location, that will close this year. This will leave six open locations on the Island in Oceanside, Westbury, West Babylon, East Northport, Lake Grove, and Riverhead.

New Hyde Park Bed Bath & Beyond is located at 1490 Union Tpke., and the Bohemia location at 5131 Sunrise Hwy.

The store closures come after Bed Bath & Beyond said that it may need to file for bankruptcy protection as it struggles to attract shoppers.

The New Jersey-based company, which has already been cutting costs, has said it will slash an additional $80 million to $100 million across the company, including an unspecified number of layoffs.

President and CEO Sue Gove said in a prepared statement in January that the company is working on adjusting its merchandise and strategy, which has moved away from shoppers’ preferences.

“We want our customers to know that we hear them and are charging ahead every day to meet their needs,” she said.
