15 Cool Cats Available for Adoption on Long Island

Here’s this week’s pick of the litter available for adoption today!

And we know that not all animal lovers can or wish to adopt a pet. If you’d like to help animals in a different way, consider donating to Community Cats of Long Island, a volunteer run non-profit organization that offers TNR and other services to stray and feral cats of Long Island. These great folks are in immediate need of some cat houses to help keep at-risk cats safe from the elements. Please contact them if you have an extra enclosure to spare, or monetary donations can be made here

Available for adoption at the Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter

Abby
Abby

Meet the Smithtown Animal Shelter’s Pet of the Week, Abby! Abby is a friendly 7-and-a-half year-old Domestic Short Hair who was brought to the Animal Shelter after she had a difficult time adjusting to a new baby in the house. She is outgoing and affectionate, but she prefers to call the shots when it comes to being petted and loved. She likes to have her own space and boundaries, and any potential owners should be respectful of that need. Abby would do well living in a quiet home without children or other pets.

If you are interested in meeting Abby, please fill out an application and/or call 631-360-7575 today!

Available for adoption at Tender Loving Cats

Sasha
Sasha

For a super sweet little girl with only three legs to get around on, Sasha makes it look easy! Sasha can jump up, do stairs, run, play with toys, do just about everything a four-legged cat can do. She has no issue with the litter box at all, you’d never guess she is missing a front leg!

Sasha is an absolute love bug, absolutely looks forward to you lying down so she can sidle up next to you on your pillow. If you’re not in the bed, she’s likely under your blankets, or has found your favorite soft blanket to make biscuits on.

Sasha suffered an injury which went untreated for 6 months. It was determined that the likely nerve damage to her leg could not be repaired, and the injury was causing a secondary wound. Once Sasha’s leg was removed, and has now healed, she’s doing better than ever! Once again Sasha is running and playing like a kitten would.

Sasha would likely do well with a mellow cat. Because of her history, she can start off a little guarded with cats that are pushy. With proper slow acclimating to a cat or dog that mostly left her alone, she would likely do well.  With her coat of many colors (she’s a Tabico- tabby and calico), and her 3 legs, Sasha is a unique cat. She would enjoy a forever home filled with lots of love.

Available for adoption at North Shore Animal League America

Delaware
Delaware

When 7-year-old Delaware (Adoption #BF2527) was rescued from a frightening situation last year, he was the most troubled of his clowder. Fortunately for this stoic gentleman, he landed safely in the care of Animal League America’s compassionate team who ask nothing of him but to feel comfortable in the first safe place he’s ever inhabited.

He’s content to spend his days gazing out the window, studying the birds from his comfy perch. Delaware’s life has not been shared with consistent caring humans, so a very predictable home (no children) with adults ready to nurture a fearful friend will create a permanent, safe space for him. He may not know it yet, but his best years await ahead for him when he finally joins a family of his own.

Lefkada
Lefkada

Two-year-old Momma Lefkada (Adoption #H211337) is worn out after providing excellent care for her kittens. Now that she’s safely off the streets and mommy work is behind her, she’s regaining her confidence while in the care of expert humans. This deserving young tabby would settle into her first home best with the patience of someone experienced in guiding a fearful feline. A home with children over age 12 will reassure her she is safe. Inviting her to play with feather wand toys will build up everyone’s confidence. If your heart is open to offering her a peaceful place to call home, Lefkada is ready to join you for a tranquil furrrever.

Elsie and Evan
Elsie and Evan

**Double Adoption** Local rescues Elsie (Adoption #BF4151) and Evan (Adoption #BF4152) complete each other. This sibling duo is a purrfect match and you’ll find two is indeed better than one. Formerly shy, Elsie is now taking the lead in play groups while her brother Evan is never far behind her. A family with older kids will have no trouble winning over these 9-month-old kittens with playtime and treats, and after given time to settle into their first real home, they’ll be excellent additions to your family.

Nikkie and Susie
Nikkie and Susie

**Double Adoption** Nikkie (Adoption #H211599) and Susie (Adoption #H211600) were very lucky when their rescuer took them inside her home. Once they were ready to be adopted, Nikkie and Susie got the ultimate opportunity to win a lifetime of happiness; they were invited into Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center where their new human friends would find them a forever family.  Nikkie is sometimes nervous after all the changes they’ve experienced, so having her more confident sister Susie by her side to guide her in new situations is all she needs to feel comfy. A loving, quiet home (with kids over age 12) will do wonders in assuring these terrific one-year-old tuxedos that a proper home as part of the family is where they’re meant to be.

Agate and Ripple
Agate and Ripple

**Double Adoption** Last summer, Agate (Adoption #H211558) and Ripple (Adoption #H211559) got their first big break when their rescuer placed them in the safety of Animal League America’s care. These tender 11-month-old tabbies relearned their feelings about humans and built up their confidence, preparing for their next big break: finding their furever family. Now all they need to complete their rescue story is a cat-experienced home (with any children over age ten) ready to help them settle into family life. If you like the idea of being their hero, we’d love to introduce you to your new best friends!

Vulpix

Looking for a quiet, loyal companion? Look no further than 2-year-old Vulpix (Adoption #H211296)! This beauty was rescued from a harrowing situation, fending for herself outdoors before making her way to Animal League America. After all she’s endured, Vulpix is now enjoying the quiet moments with trusted friends, both human and feline! She’s looking for the purrfect home because this little survivor deserves a safe, loving place to call own! If you have experience welcoming cats into your home (children 10+ please) and you’re ready to give her the love and comfort she’s been waiting for, Vulpix can’t wait to share her heart with you!

Breezy and Josie
Breezy and Josie

**Double Adoption** Coming all the way from Puerto Rico is brother/sister team Breezy (Adoption #PR00192) and Josie (Adoption #PR00193). Not only are these 9-month-old siblings a purrfect match in the looks department, but they’re also helping each other settle into new situations. Breezy is having the time of his life exploring all of the toys in his room at Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center, and after settling in, Josie is now purrfectly happy to join in on her more confident brother’s exploration. A family (with any children above age six) will provide the steady environment this pair needs to thrive. Time and patience are the only tools you’ll need to get them up and running around your living room. Adopt them today and watch them discover life in your home and life in your family.

Emily
Emily

Seven-month-old Emily (Adoption #H212168) was given a fresh start when she was rescued locally and brought inside for safety. The life she leaves behind has given her pause about humans. Time in a quiet room is allowing her to watch as her friends show her how to trust again, and a companion’s offer to cuddle has her easing into this new phase of her life. Animal League America is looking for a peaceful, patient, and cat-experienced home (with children 8 and older) willing to give her all the time she needs to warm up to comforts she never knew existed.  A feline friend waiting to welcome her will be exactly what she needs to settle into her first real home. With a little encouragement from you, Emily will find her way into your heart and trust you with her future.

Mishka
Mishka

Mighty Mishka (Adoption #PR00301) has a bold purrsonality for such a little one. This tenacious 7-month-old rescue from Puerto Rico wants to make it very clear that she wants all the attention in her first real home, one with older children and adults familiar with furry divas. Her bigger-than-life persona is going to be all you need to add spark and humor to your home. If you’re looking for a clown-of-a-kitty to join your family, Mishka is the one for you!
