DOS TOROS TAQUERIA

New York City-based chain Dos Toros Taqueria opened its first Long Island location in New Hyde Park in January. The fast-casual, San Francisco Bay Area-inspired, Mission-style taqueria specializes in burritos, quesadillas, tacos, bowls, and nachos.

Some fan-favorite menu items include the carne asada burrito ($10.99), spiced sweet potato burrito ($8.49), rice and bean bowl ($7.79), pork carnitas taco ($4.95), and the pollo asado DT quesadilla ($9.29). The menu also has a build-your-own-salad option and vegetarian options with Impossible Meat.

TOUS LES JOURS

The first Tous les Jours location on Long Island – and the ninth in New York – opened in Great Neck in March. The French-Asian bakery and cafe offers more than 300 different types of pastries, cakes, and other desserts, as well as sandwich, salad, coffee, and bread menus. It is best known for its cloud cake, a fluffy sponge cake that comes in several different flavors, including chocolate, strawberry, and green tea.

While the bakery has an array of bread and dessert catering options, it’s also an idyllic spot to sit down for an afternoon bite to eat. If you have a sweet tooth, there are several European donut flavors to choose from. There are also plenty of savory options, too. These include the pizza baguette ($4.95), mushroom-onion cheese pastry ($5.50), and spinach-feta danish ($4.95).

BOBBY Q’S RESTAURANT

Bobby Q’s Restaurant, also known as Bobby Q’s Jus Like Mama’s, opened a second Freeport location last fall. This soul food and seafood joint originated on Freeport’s Main Street in 2017. That location has become more of a takeout spot, while the new location on Sunrise Highway has more sit-down vibes.

Seafood and barbecue offerings at this casual eatery include lobster mac and cheese ($15.99), chicken ‘n’ waffle ($14.99), and a pulled-pork slider and fries ($10.99). There are also dinner options that each come with the customer’s choice of two sides, including the grilled salmon ($22.99), beef short rib ($20.99), and many others, including chicken, chicken wings, and combination orders.
