Brown Skin Brunchin’ Long Island Celebrates Its One-Year Anniversary
Brown Skin Brunchin’ Long Island, a monthly brunch event for women of color, celebrated its one-year anniversary on Saturday, April 15 at Backyard BBQ on Freeport’s Nautical Mile.
The event was a huge success, with more than 50 women in attendance. Guests enjoyed a delicious brunch buffet, live DJ, and raffles with prizes from local businesses. The first Brown Skin Brunchin’ Long Island event took place on April 13, 2022 at Duns River Lounge a the time had 25 local members which have now grown to 460.
Eleanor McKay, ambassador for Brown Skin Brunchin’ Long Island, said she was thrilled to see so many women come out to celebrate the one-year anniversary.
“This is a special event for us,” Yolanda Garner Hutcherson, Brown Skin Brunchin’ ambassador said. “We’re so grateful to the women who have supported us over the past year. We hope to continue to provide a space for women of color to come together and connect.”
Brown Skin Brunchin’ Long Island is a monthly brunch event held on Long Island, hosting brunches at different Long Island establishments throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties. The event is open to all women of color. For more information, visit the Brown Skin Brunch main website.
There are currently three Brown Skin Brunch chapters in New York State; New York City, which includes the 5 boroughs, Hudson Valley, and Long Island. There are 87 Brown Skin Brunchin’ chapters across the United States, as well as new chapters in the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa. The Brown Skin Brunchin’ app is currently used by more than 22k women participating in brunches together every weekend.
