12 Pets for Adoption on Long Island

Available for adoption at North Shore Animal League America

Delaware
Delaware

When 7-year-old Delaware (Adoption #BF2527) was rescued from a frightening situation last year, he was the most troubled of his clowder. Fortunately for this stoic gentleman, he landed safely in the care of Animal League America’s compassionate team who ask nothing of him but to feel comfortable in the first safe place he’s ever inhabited. He’s content to spend his days gazing out the window, studying the birds from his comfy perch.

Delaware’s life has not been shared with consistent caring humans, so a very predictable home with no children and adults with a heart for nurturing fearful felines is needed to create a permanent, safe space for him. He may not know it yet, but his best year awaits ahead for him once he finally joins a family worthy of his devotion.

Montauk
Montauk

Last year, Animal League America was alerted to an emergency situation where we discovered Montauk (Adoption #BF2531) and several friends in need of help. They’ve given this survivor the quietest place to settle into after a lifetime of distress, and all the time he’s needed to show everyone who he really is. Relearning how he feels about humans has been a struggle for Montauk at times, but each day he’s opening up a little more to the pawsabilities of a life shared with quiet, cat-experienced humans who can offer him a consistent, predictable, and safe home.

If you have a confident cat at home who could share their joy of being a beloved pet with him, Montauk may prove to be the most loyal student. A home without children will provide the optimum environment for Montauk’s retirement years. He’s encountered many heroes along his journey but none as special as the adopter who steps up to share this Montauk life.

Lefkada
Lefkada

Two-year-old Momma Lefkada (Adoption #H211337) has had all the time and comfort she’s needed to gain faith in the hands that care for her and have been rewarded with the gift of her trust. She wasn’t easily won over but given all she’s survived before landing in this safe place, it’s easy to understand why she can still be unsure in new situations. That’s why a quiet home with cat-experienced adults and children over the age of twelve will be essential in continuing her training and socialization.

Give her time and treats, and soon she’ll be belly up and purring just like she does for her North Shore Animal League America besties. If your heart is open to offering her a peaceful place into which she can gently settle, Lefkada is ready to put her past behind her and join you in a tranquil furever.

Rhodes and Delphi
Rhodes and Delphi

**Double Adoption** A local rescuer brought Rhodes (Adoption #BF4165) and Delphi (Adoption #BF4166) to Animal League America in need of some TLC that could teach them to welcome and joy human touch. Time in a quiet, consistent space showed them how wonderful being part of a family could be, so they’re tucked into a sunny room at Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center to finish their education under the tutelage of some very devoted feline mentors.

Success in their eventual  home will come from adults experienced in nurturing fearful kittens, and children over the age of twelve who can offer a consistent, predictable environment in which to enjoy the rest of their lives. These 11-month-old kittens could play all day once they feel safe and comfy in their setting.

Ink
Ink

Five-year-old Ink (Adoption #BF4471) was in desperate need of rescue when he was discovered discarded in a junkyard. Animal League America’s vets tended to his medical needs, and he’s shown appreciation for this tender, loving care he’s received after the hardship of surviving outdoors. This timid, gentle soul is FIV+, likely a result of his time outside, but now that he’s safely snuggling in a bed, he can imagine a future life full of comforts. We’re going to make sure the rest of his life is filled with love and nurturing.

If you’d like to be Ink’s hero, all he asks for is a peaceful space and a never-ending flow of treats delivered to him in bed. An experienced cat owner (with older children) will easily supply Ink with enough love and consistency to settle him into his new life as a beloved family member.

Arroz and Frijole
Arroz and Frijole

**Double Adoption** Guess who turns one this month? Bonded brothers from Puerto Rico, Arroz (Adoption #PR00203) and Frijole (Adoption #PR00204)! And wow, do these boys know how to celebrate! The best gift would be their first real home where you can celebrate all their future birthdays together. Experienced adults (and older children) will provide the predictable atmosphere in which we’ve seen these siblings thrive.  The best way to say Feliz Cumpleanos would be with these boys leaving our campus on their way to a forever with you.

Jacque
Jacque

**Special Request** Jacque (Adoption #H212151) is celebrating his first birthday, and his party will include all his favorite activities: wand toys, tunnels, treats, and bubbles (this boy can’t get enough bubbles!) You’d never know from his enthusiastic energy that Jacque has a serious heart condition.

Keep in mind, this condition is covered through Animal League America’s Pet Health Centers, and will create a strong relationship between Jacque, his veterinary team who care for him, and the heroes who take him into their heart and home. We want Jacque’s life to be full of joy, not worry (same goes for his lucky adopters.) A home where Jacque is the only pet will help settle him into family life.

Please email DoritS@animalleague.org for more information about adopting any one of these adorable adoptables today!

pets for adoption
Samson

**Senior Alert** Samson is a 9-year-old Boxer/Pit Mix who was found abandoned at the Kings Park Psychiatric Center with his sister Delilah after their old owner sadly passed away. His sister has already been adopted, and now it’s Samson’s turn to find that special home for him. He is a big fan of going for walks, cuddling, hanging out with his favorite people, and eating! Sweet and outgoing Samson gets along well with older children and some other dogs. Samson has so much love to give and wants nothing more than a furrever home where he can share that love.

**Senior Alert** Blaze is a 10-year-old Pit Mix who has been a resident of the Animal Shelter for over four years. Blaze is a wonderful mix of couch potato and walking buddy! He is a fan of toys, swimming in the doggy pool and getting some food! Blaze is a very protective dog who requires proper introductions to new people, but his approval can be bought with cookies.

Once Blaze trusts you, he’ll love you forever. He gives kisses to all his favorite people and will tolerate other animals from a distance, just not in his space. You can find Blaze wearing his favorite winter jacket when the weather gets cold. This boy is a staff favorite, and he is low key and easy going when settled in. He has great leash manners and will adorably carry his toys around. Blaze should be the only pet in a child-free home.

If you are interested in meeting Samson or Blaze, please fill out an application to schedule time to properly interact with them in a domestic setting, which includes a Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs, and Dog Walk trail. Call 631-360-7575 or complete an online application today.
